iPhone Duo: Apple's First Foldable — The Official Specs (2026)
Apple's first foldable is official, and its name is iPhone Duo — not "iPhone Fold" and not "iPhone Ultra", the two names the leaks kept repeating. It was announced on 9 September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro. In Malaysia, pre-orders open 16 October 2026 at 8:00pm and it goes on sale 23 October 2026. When does the iPhone Duo launch in Malaysia?
- 9 September 2026 — announced at Apple Park.
- 16 October 2026, 8:00pm (Malaysia time) — pre-orders open.
- 23 October 2026 — on sale in Malaysia.
It ships about five weeks after the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, which went on sale 18 September. If you want a foldable iPhone on day one, the pre-order window is the one to watch.
iPhone Duo: the confirmed specs
- Two displays — a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR cover screen (1398 × 2034) and a 7.6-inch inner screen (1878 × 2670).
- ProMotion and Always-On on both screens, with peak brightness up to 3,000 nits.
- A20 Pro chip — the same 2nm silicon as the iPhone 18 Pro.
- Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover.
- Dual 48MP rear cameras.
- An under-display FaceTime camera on the inner screen — so no notch or island interrupting the big display.
- Apple Pencil support (USB-C) arriving in a software update later this year, not at launch.
Note what did not survive the rumour cycle: the inner screen is 7.6 inches, not 7.8; there is no Touch ID side button story here; and the 24MP under-display front camera figure was wrong.
Why the iPhone Duo matters
Apple is the last major brand to enter foldables, and it enters with a book-style device rather than a flip. Two things stand out: the under-display FaceTime camera gives an uninterrupted inner screen that no current Android foldable matches, and Grade 5 titanium on the hinge cover targets the part that wears first on a folding phone.
