When did the iPhone 18 launch officially?

Here is the confirmed timeline:

• 9 September 2026 — announcement event at Apple Park. iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo unveiled.
• 12 September 2026, 8:00pm (Malaysia time) — iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max pre-orders open.
• 18 September 2026 — iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max go on sale.
• 16 October 2026, 8:00pm — iPhone Duo pre-orders open in Malaysia; on sale 23 October 2026.

Malaysia was in the first launch wave again this year, same as the iPhone 17 generation.

Two waves: which models arrive when

Apple split this generation across two windows, and that split matters more than the headline date:

• September–October 2026: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo.
• Early 2027 (expected around March): the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2. These have not been announced — the timing comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and has been consistent across MacRumors and Digital Trends reporting.

So if you are waiting for a standard, non-Pro iPhone 18, your wait did not end in September. See wait for the iPhone 18 or buy the iPhone 17 now? for how that changes the maths.

What is new on the iPhone 18 Pro?

The five changes that actually matter day to day:

• A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process — Apple's first 2nm iPhone silicon, built with wafer-level multi-chip packaging.
• A smaller Dynamic Island — about 35% smaller than the previous generation. The front camera cutout is still there; this is a trim, not a full under-display Face ID.
• A real variable aperture 48MP Fusion main camera — a six-blade mechanism with four aperture settings you can pick yourself, not just a software effect.
• Apple's own C2 modem — it replaces Qualcomm across this generation, not just on some units. Apple quotes around 15% lower power draw and faster uploads.
• Longer battery life — up to 36 hours of video playback on the iPhone 18 Pro and up to 45 hours on the Pro Max (eSIM-only models).
